The County is in
the middle of a six year plan. Since
2005 the property crime has increased significantly and crimes of
deadly force have declined.
Increase is due to
criminals looking for flat screen TVs, computers, all electronics.
You can’t compare Memphis with
other cities because each city or state measures differently. For
example NY doesn’t even count larceny unless it’s over $500, TN
counts everything over $50
Gangs have risen
because of poor family life and poor guidance by adults. The
gang gives them structure and sense of belonging. Most
gang members have no faith.
Police and
Sheriff’s depts. are stretched and have responsibilities which are
far more than just putting policeman on street. Having
alarm systems, animals, and private security are ways to “encourage”
criminals to go elsewhere. The police simply cannot provide 24 hour
service. Security guards
are one more layer if affordable to deter crime. The
police and Sheriff’s dept endorse the use of private security.
Private
security is going to react to a “suspicious” person much faster than
the police. That is no
higher than a level three alert to the police department.

3 foot –7 foot rule
Keep bushes no more
than 3 feet tall and no limbs on trees hanging below 7 feet. This
eliminates places for criminals to hide.
